Take the time to really dig deep and craft an experience that connects the learner to the content and you will have an engaged group of learners. Skip the effort and you are guaranteed to work harder for less learning results.
In the first step, Connect (right-brain focused), you create an opportunity for the learner to connect to their personal experiences and grasp the importance of the content you are about to share. |
In the second step, Attend (left-brain focused), you craft an experience that generates meaningful thought and dialogue around the content. |
In the third step, Image (right-brain focused), the learner moves from their own experiences and begins to see the broader view of the content. When this step is done well, the learner begins to see how the content connects to the outcome. |
Many 4MAT trainers have shared the insight that the Image activity is the learning outcome visualized. Why is this visual, right-mode step so important? To create anything—whether it is a sculpture or a behavioral shift—we must first see the outcome in our mind’s eye. And, most importantly, each image is unique.
