e-Learning

Last week, I spent a few days serving on the ASTD Program Planning Committee for the International Conference in 2008. We spent a good deal of time talking about e-learning-the advantages and inherent weaknesses. When we connect with trainers in our programs, they are always interested in talking with other trainers about who is doing e-learning well.

The 4MAT model describes four distinct parts of the design and delivery process: Engage, Share, Practice and Perform. In Engage, you connect the learner to the content and bring them into the learning process through dialogue. In Share, you present the information being learned. In Practice, the learner takes over and begins to apply the information. And, in Perform, the learner refines their own work and adapts the information for use in their unique work and life situation.

It is easy to use e-learning to deliver the Share and Practice parts of the model. It requires some creativity to really do a good job with Engage and Perform. We are wondering who is really applying 4MAT to e-learning with success. If you have some interesting examples of 4MAT-based e-learning, our community we would like to hear about it.

With enough interest, we can easily put together a web call with a few panel members sharing what they are doing. Are you interested? If so, send us an email »

Be well,
