Each class will be recorded and available to all registered participants following each workshop.

Session 1: Maximizing Your Natural Training Design Strengths to Reach All Learning Styles
Anyone who has logged time in a training situation, knows that learning differences exist. In this session, you will discover your preferred learning style and how it influences your approach to training design. We will explore the latest brain research on learning styles and discover the four primary learning style needs. More importantly, we will discover a four-part learning cycle that every learner must travel, regardless of style, to truly learn. You’ll identify painful and successful learning strategies for all learning preferences and learn how to stretch your design approach to reach all learners.

What You Will Learn:

  • Discover your preferred learning style and how it affects your training approach

  • Understanding the four learning steps all learners move through, regardless of style

  • Find out what is painful and successful for each learning style in a learning environment

  • Identify ways to stretch your instructional design approach to appeal to all learners and ensure learning results

Session 2: Increasing Learning Impact Using Right-Brain Learning Strategies
In this session, we’ll quickly tour the latest brain research that gives trainers insight into how to maximize learning impact. You’ll discover your natural preference for right- or left-brain processing using the Hemispheric Mode Indicator®. We’ll explore easy-to-incorporate right-mode strategies you can apply to any content including interactive exercises, visual organizers and assessment structures. When we add right- and left- strategies to the learning cycle, we will discover an 8-step model for teaching any content to any learning style. You’ll see the steps in action using real-world content. You’ll begin building your training design in the online 4MATion® Training Design Center by defining four critical learning outcomes.

What You Will Learn

  • Explore what the current brain research tells us about what must be included in effective instructional design

  • Discover your design strengths in right- and left-mode activity design

  • Use the Bank of over 100 Activities provided in 4MATion to increase interactivity including visual organizer activities, metaphor activities, image activities and reflection activities

  • Define your instructional design’s four key outcomes that will guide activity choice

Session 3: Applying the 8-Steps to Design to Deliver Training Return-On-Investment
Here we begin designing using real-world content. Using the Quick Design Guide, you will choose activities that work effectively in each of the 8-steps of the 4MAT® design process. We will also dig deeper into the most important step in design, which is where to begin. Using real-world content, we will apply the Umbrella method to define the core concept underlying all the content you are tasked with teaching. The concept becomes the jumping off point in design. You’ll explore the over-arching concept for your design and add this to your design in the online 4MATion® Training Design Center.

What You Will Learn

  • Identify the overarching concept for your course that will help you filter out non-essential content

  • Choose activities that will deliver on the four critical learning outcomes using the Quick Design Guide

  • Develop interactive lecture using one of the 7 Lecture Organizing Frameworks

Session 4: Creating Dynamic Openings and Gaining Commitment
The two most critical elements of a training design are the opening and the closing. In this session, we will explore how to use a powerful “concept” to guide your course development. We will explore how to create engaging openings that draw the learner into the learning process and create a strong learning community. Next, we’ll look at how to “push” content out into the real world using strategies that increase learner commitment and gain needed support from front line managers. You’ll identify how to begin and end your training design using the concept you have defined. Now, you are ready to complete your design. In the 4MATion® Training Design Center, you will add the activities you create or select activity examples from the Bank of Activities to import into your design.

What You Will Learn

  • Assess your opening using the 4MAT Assessment Tool

  • Enhance your opening using one of the 6 Opening Strategies that Always Work

  • Determine how you will measure the post-training performance

  • Enhance your closing using one of the 14 Closing Strategies that Always Work

Session 5: Assessing Your Training Design
In this session, you’ll use the 4MAT Assessment Tool to evaluate your design. We’ll use the Strategy Assessment Checker in your printed Training Design Kit and the online 4MATion® Training Design Center to enhance your design. We will review the four key learning outcomes and assess against desired learning outcomes.

What You Will Learn

  • Review your complete design using the 4MAT Assessment tool

  • Determine what Delivery team members should know to adequately assess learning throughout each step of the course to reach the desired learning outcomes
